The composition MYSTERIES (2024) by Norwegian composer and trumpeter Didrik Ingvaldsen is inspired by the Norwegian novelist Knut Hamsun‘s book of the same name. „Set in a Norwegian coastal town, the narrative unfolds as society‘s carefully woven threads begin to unravel with the arrival of an unsettling stranger named Johan Nagel. With a penetrating insight into human nature, Nagel exposes the townsfolk, revealing their darkest instincts and suppressed desires. Arrogant yet unassuming, righteous yet depraved, Nagel‘s peculiar behavior and impassioned speeches captivate the entire community, even as he disrupts its order—only to vanish as suddenly as he appeared.“
The composition ACTION MUSIC (2024) by Swiss composer and conductor Roland Dahinden, written in graphic notation, draws inspiration from the expressive gestures found in Jackson Pollock‘s paintings. In this piece, the two soloists evoke musical events by interacting with granules on the cymbals and trigger ‘musical actions’ following a design outlined in graphic notation.
The project DUST IN THE GROOVE has been performing in varying line-ups since 2013, straddling experimental jazz and contemporary music. The original music by the band‘s leader Radim Hanousek (saxophone, bass clarinet), along with members Žaneta Vítová (accordion), Jana Vodrů (vocals), Didrik Ingvaldsen (trumpet), and Jan Přibil (trumpet), provides a great deal of room for individual and collective improvization and the search for new sound potentials. Majority of the members are active in the field of experimental jazz and contemporary music, which allows them to encompass both emotional interpretive positions, expressive jazz, and precision and subtle timbre. Martin Opršál (marimba), Yoram Rosilio (double bass), and Valentin Duit (drums) all contribute to the overall sound of the ensemble.
World premiere / Live performance recorded March 24, 2024, at the DOX Centre for Contemporary Art in Prague, Czech Republic.
